Call it nesting, or call it nesting on steroids.
My sister-in-law asked the other day if I was in the nesting stage already, and I think that is one way to put it. I replied back with some long explanation for what I have now determined as “nesting on steroids”. You see, it is my normal personality to want to organize, clean, declutter, fix-up all the things. So, the stage I believe I have entered into now is my normal get-it-done MO added to the pregnancy hormones; and as my husband is already discovering, this is a serious thing. Bless him for being such a good sport and jumping in to take care of the heavy lifting.
Chase is also built to get things done, he takes initiative when it comes to house projects, house maintenance, yard work and even the kitchen when I’m down and out. I’m so thankful for that! This all just means, that there is some serious work getting done around here! But don’t worry neighbors, we aren’t going anywhere yet, this crazy train is staying put only getting a little lighter.
Last week our second-level half bath was the victim. This teeny tiny space has been on my list of to do’s for a long time coming and since “nesting on steroids” is taking over the house, this space has finally been completed!
When we first moved in, this small bathroom was one of the bigger eyesores of the house. Burgundy laminate, sterile white walls, dark doors, ( yes doors, of all the rooms, this one has two entrances) and no windows. We have since decided that this bathroom was once a closet, seeing that the two adjoining rooms are both without. Logical and great to have an added bathroom, but also tricky to navigate storage for the other rooms and a light and airy feel for the bathroom.
Because this is such a small space, it really didn’t take too much effort to change up the feel of the room. We painted the trim, walls and floor for the initial face lift. I’m a firm believer that paint never fails when it comes to changing a space on a budget. Breaking open the wall, to accommodate a window was off the table, so I was left to my other option of paint. I think it did the trick.
The part of the transformation that will always be my favorite, is the decorating. I love a blank canvas and what it inspires in me.
We found our mirror at a resale shop for $2.00 last year (yes, like I said a long time coming) and with a little paint and distressing, we were good to go. I was gifted the two little shelves which were perfect in size for the wall space available. The pedestal sink was original to the house (total bonus) so I simply added one of my trusty IKEA plants to make it a little more inviting. The rug was a HomeGoods treasure, cant really beat their prices when it comes to small rugs in my opinion. The picture frame, also a HomeGoods find, finished off with a print I bought last year.
All in all, I am pretty pleased with how the space turned out. I’m sure the decor will be moved a time or two and maybe even a white pumpkin added to the mix for fall, but I’m mostly grateful for this tiny little space on the second level, because it makes midnight bathroom runs that much easier.
Stay tuned for more home updates and organization around here, this poor house is always in process!
Until next time.
